Passenger Traveling in Atlanta's Airport From Nigeria Contracts Monkeypox

A U.S. Citizen has contracted Monkeypox after visiting Nigeria.

The CDC reported Friday that after leaving Lagos, Nigeria on July 8th, they had a layover in Atlanta, GA's Hartsfield Jackson Airport on July 9th before returning home to Dallas, TX.

This is the first reported case of Monkeypox in the according to the Centers for Disease Control.

CDC is working with the airlines to contact other passengers who may have been exposed but current COVID-19 mask mandates likely limited the risk to other people.

The passenger is currently at a Dallas hospital.
