A 28-year-old mother was taken into custody after her eight-year-old son was caught driving the wrong way down a street in downtown St. Louis, Missouri, around 4 a.m. on Monday (April 15).
A security guard saw the young boy driving the wrong way and got him to stop before calling the police.
When officers arrived over the boy, they found his mother, Latonta Mayes-Gale, asleep in the backseat. A three-year-old was also in the back and was not in a car seat.
The young boy told officers that his mom could no longer drive and asked him to take over behind the wheel. According to KSDK, officers believed Mayes-Gale was under the influence of alcohol when she asked her son to drive her car.
Officers took Mayes-Gale to Saint Louis University Hospital before taking her to the St. Louis jail, where she was being held without bond.
The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged her with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Authorities did not provide details on what happened with her two children.
