A popular seasoning used to enhance foods like popcorn has been recalled around the country, including in Georgia, has been recalled over the risk of causing a "life-threatening" reaction in certain consumers.
TS Food Packaging has issued a recall of its Rural King brand and Wabash Valley Farms brand Bacon Seasoning "due to the presence of an undeclared soy ingredient," according to a recall notice shared by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration. This could pose the risk of a "serious or life-threatening allergic reaction" in consumers with an allergy to products containing soy.
According to the FDA, the recall followed a discovery that a supplier sent the "soy containing ingredient" as a substitute without notifying about the presence of soy.
The affected products, which were distributed nationwide in retail stores and online, were packaged in 4.2 ounce jars with lot numbers 17324s. 27824s and 30324s as well as in 1 ounce gift packets in lot numbers 16524SP, 16624SP, 23424SP, 26324SP, 26424SP, 20624S and 20724S.
As of January 24, there have been no reports of illnesses associated with the recall. The products can be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.
