Federal agents arrested 27 people in connection to a fentanyl and methamphetamine bust in New Hampshire linked to the Mexican Sinaloa cartel, FOX News reports.

The supply chain was traced back from Franklin, New Hampshire, through Lawrence, Massachusetts, which has long been identified as a fentanyl hub for the New England region.

"Happening NOW! Twenty seven people in Franklin, New Hampshire have just been arrested! Fentanyl and methamphetamine sourced from Lawrence, Massachusetts have been seized. The drugs are directly linked to the Sinaloa Cartel. The investigation continues," the Drug Enforcement Administration of New England wrote on its X account, along with a photo of suspects being detained and another showing stacks of cash seized in the bust.

The Sinaloa cartel has long been a top distributor of fentanyl in the U.S., with Lawrence serving as a location that has been repeatedly flagged as a main distribution point by federal officials. Fentanyl has become one of the top causes for overdose in the U.S., with more than 70,000 estimated annual deaths reported, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The DEA said the investigation into fentanyl in Franklin is ongoing and confirmed that more arrests were possible. No additional details were made available as of Thursday (August 28).
